The Seminoles look to continue their hot hitting and stellar pitching Tuesday night after making Duke look like the Duke teams of old. Tonight's game is versus a solid ball club in the South Alabama Jaguars who are also coming off a weekend sweep of their own against Arkansas State where they won by a combined total of 30-5 which included a 20-2 blowout on Saturday.
OFFENSE:
The Noles bats were unstoppable this past weekend as they hit .396 against the Blue Devils with 15 extra base hits. A total of 22 walks to only 15 strikeouts helped FSU score more than 10 runs per game. Against Arkansas State, USA hit .275 with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 3 homers and averaged 10 runs in the series.
3B Jose Brizuela just keeps getting better as the season rolls along with an OPS at 1.026 and a .360 batting average. CF DJ Stewart and LF Marcus Davis are also coming off great weekends and have combined to knock in 63 runs. 1B/DH Jordan Patterson leads the league in on-base percentage (.503) and leads his team with a .585 slugging percentage. 1B/DH Dustin Dalken is the other player on this Jaguars team who is slugging over .500 with a very respectable .410 on-base percentage.
PITCHING:
Other than some spotty relief pitching the Noles staff this past weekend was great. They combined to strikeout 26 Blue Devil hitters while walking only 3 and giving up just 5 extra base hits the entire series. The Jaguar pitching staff leads their league in opposing batting average (.242) and saves (14), and is second in the Sun Belt in ERA (3.76) and strikeouts (332).
PROBABLES:
If Peter Miller pitches like he did against Florida last Tuesday the chances FSU loses is pretty slim. In that game he went 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Right hander Payton Gardner is making his first start of the season and only 4th appearance of the season. He has yet to face a lineup the likes of Florida State and I would be shocked if he made it through the lineup more than once without serious damage.
Tonight's game starts at 6PM and can be viewed on ESPN3
