5:10 update
Scooter Haggins is likely out for the year with a fractured kneecap. He can redshirt. we have updated the scholarship chart to reflect such.
Rashad Greene was in a green, non-contact jersey to prevent injury.
Ye did 60 plays of 1-vs-1 and about 24 of 1-vs-2
Florida State hit some big plays against the blitz, and players had good YAC.
Mario Pender got a little banged up during the scrimmage.
P.J. Williams' injury is a thigh bruise.
Early update
P.J. Williams didn't dress for the scrimmage due to a thigh bruise. And Ronald Darby made some nice plays in his absence as he's still easing his way back.
They still haven't figured out which coaches will be up in the box just yet.
The Florida State Seminoles took to Bobby Bowden Field inside Doak Campbell stadium on Wednesday for their first scrimmage of the fall. With their September 2, season opener right around the corner, these scrimmages prove to be crucial to preparation. And both the players and coaching staff seemed focused as they took the field.
Mickey Andrews was in the house.
Spencer, Stephen and I kept an eye out.
P.J. Williams, Scooter Haggins, Austin Barron, Ryan Hoefeld and Davarez Bryant were not dressed out for today's scrimmage.
Jacob Fahrenkrug was taking reps as the first team left tackle while Cam Erving still remains limited.
Bryan Stork was back working as the first team center.
Ronald Darby was back working with the first team defense today. I've mentioned before that I expect him to step into the role that Jalen Ramsey has been playing this fall. But with P.J. out today, Ramsey remained and Darby stepped in where P.J. has been, opposite Lamarcus.
Kermit Whitfield and Jesus Wilson were in numerous sets during the walk-through, and FSU was working on getting their speedy slot receiver the ball on sweeps and other sets. This isn't anything new, as FSU has done this in the past with other receivers, including Louis Givens, Rashad Greene and Kelvin Benjamin.
Christian Green was not involved in any of the walk-through. However, Jimbo did call him over at one point preaching leverage to him. Sounded like he messed up during yesterday's practice. DB apparently had outside leverage on him and Green tried to go to the outside.
They ran a couple bubble screens with wide receiver and a running back split to the outside with the RB catching the screen - Pender in this instance. Jimbo preaching that the goal is for the receiver to make the first guy miss and then follow his blockers down field.
FSU really seems to be working on power football in short yardage, including lining up Chad Abram, Jacobbi McDaniel and James Wilder in the backfield, with Winston under center. Remember, McDaniel is a defensive tackle playing some fullback this year. FSU has done this before, like in 2011, with Bjoern Werner.
Bobby Hart looked good today from what we saw. Feet are much faster than they were during the spring.
We'll get Jimbo Fisher and a couple of players after today's scrimmage and we'll bring you that update.
