With the Noles in the middle of a 2-week trip to Greece where they won't be playing any real games to report on, I figure it's a good time to update everyone on what's going on with recruiting.
As always, bookmark the 2014 Recruiting Board page for up-to-date news.
With four seniors and two open scholarships, FSU has six scholarships to give. The only way they'll give all six is if they expect attrition. The Georgia 2015 class is loaded, and FSU needs to save 1-2 ships for that class.
POINT GUARD
Most importantly, Tyler Ulis dropped FSU so that we can stop worrying about him. He plays in Chicago, and he's at the top of Michigan State's board, so if he doesn't end up a Spartan then something strange is going on.
Another FSU recruit - 4* Justin Coleman out of Alamaba - committed (as expected) to Bama, so he's off the board.
3* Lance Tejada Jr. (who will likely get bumped to 4* by a few services) recently cut his list to 7, and included FSU. Two of the other schools were Bama and Miami, but Miami's guard class is likely full, and Bama already landed a 4* PG. The other targets are still Montay's friend JaQuel Richmond (3.7* out of Greensboro), 3* Bryant McIntosh (expect him as a 4* before all is said and done, and likely Big Ten bound), and 3* Darrell Davis. McIntosh and Davis are combo guys. Michigan State recently offered Davis, but that is probably to put pressure on Ulis to commit.
SHOOTING GUARD
A few guys have cut their list and included FSU. Ahmed Hill, a consensus top-100 recruit, has narrowed things to nine schools. Robert Johnson, who will be a consensus top-100 recruit, has cut it to seven. 3* Temarcus Blanton and 3.3* Wade Baldwin have each cut it to five.
Other names to watch are Namon Wright (loooonnnnnggggg shot), Che Bob, and Jay Henderson.
SMALL FORWARD
4* Riley Norris committed to Alabama, which was certainly better than committing to Florida. That leaves FSU with six guys on the current board.
Consensus top-100 player Terry Larrier has cut his list to 10, but wants to visit all three Florida schools. VCU is likely the leader, however.
Isaiah Wilkins - Dominique's step-son - has also cut things to 10. New assistant coach C.Y. Young is responsible for keeping FSU on the radar for a lot of Georgia kids, including Wilkins. At some point Georgia will offer, and then he's likely off the board.
The rest of the names are the same. Devin Robinson is still being recruited by everyone; and Keondre Dew, Sam Longwood, and Kyle Kuzma round out the current potentials.
POWER FORWARD
Here's where things get interesting. The top target is borderline 5* Jakeenan Gant out of Springfield, GA, who will likely attend college with Ahmed Hill (see SG section). So if someone else wants to commit, do you take them? Here's the three you do.
Angel Delgado (Dominican Republic), who FSU was on before anyone knew who he was, had his coach Tweet a top-5 (included FSU). Delgado Tweeted later that he had no top-5. Kentucky and Louisville are both chasing him hard.
3.3* Josh Martin (Seattle), named his final five of FSU, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Washington, and Pitt.
And XRM's friend Ray Kasongo (Toronto) hasn't named official finalists, but they are LSU, Oregon, and Florida State.
CENTER
Nothing new here. The names to watch are still Adonis De La Rosa out of New York City, and Jabari Craig from Tucker, GA.
