While the opening day of fall practice was behind them, the 'Noles didn't slow as they took to the indoor practice facility for the second day of fall camp.
Even after being impressed by the new facilities, there are other ways to see that Florida State is looking towards the future. And this was completely evident while watching the defense. The coaching staff had the young freshmen shadowing the more experienced players. Jalen Ramsey shadowing P.J. Williams, Matthew Thomas shadowing Telvin Smith, etc. There is a point to this: Work towards the future. Continue to build the program. And that's exactly what they're doing here at Florida State, and they've shown that today as they hired a new athletic director.
*Mario Pender was not at practice today even though he was cleared this morning. I expect to see him this week.
*Ira Denson was in a sling and did not practice today. We'll find out more once we have the chance to talk to Jimbo.
*P.J. Williams has worked with the first team defense for consecutive days now. Nick Waisome and Ronald Darby may be a half step slow as they ease back into the day-to-day following their injuries. But I've always liked P.J. Williams with his length and strength. We'll see how this plays out, as it is a long ways from over.
*Jesus Wilson and Kermit Whitfield were working on punting drills, which is something that a lot of us have expected to see at some point.
*Jameis Winston and Jacob Coker seem to be throwing the ball really well.
*Gio Newberry actually caught a few balls today out of a heavy set, using 2 TEs. Looked fairly natural when going up and getting the ball.
*NFL scouts were again present today. I Noticed the New York Giants.
It's only the first couple of days so there hasn't been too much action as of yet, but stay tuned.
We didn't get Jimbo today, but I'll make sure to ask him about Ira Denson's situation on Thursday.
