Florida State Football Practice Report 9/10

With the home opener mere days away, the Seminoles returned to the practice field in preparation for Saturday's matchup with Nevada.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

After enjoying an early bye week, the Florida State football team will be back in action this weekend for the home opener. The contest will be Jameis Winston's first home start in Doak, and the buzz surrounding the event is starting to escalate. Dustin Tackett and I were out at practice today and have some observations to share:

James Wilder Jr. was wearing a blue no-contact jersey. Coming off the banged up shoulder he had after the Pittsburgh game, there's no reason to have him involved in any major contact.

Tre' Jackson was not practicing again which means Reuben Carter was getting reps with the first team at right guard.  Sterling Lovelady was taking snaps as the first team center today even though Stork was fully dressed. And as Jimbo has mentioned all fall, this is more about getting the 2s and 3s reps.  He knows what guys like Stork and Erving can do, and doesn't mind giving them a little rest.

PJ Williams was taking reps with the first team for the second straight day and was moving well.

Random fact: coach Phillip Fulmer was at practice today for a little while, too.

Jimbo will be speaking after practice today.
