We are picking two safeties. I have a feeling that this will be really, really easy. And yes, for the purposes of this team, Lamarcus Joyner is classified as a safety, because that is the position at which he played the vast majority of his snaps for FSU, and even in 2013 as a nickel cornerback, he had many safety-like duties. Here are the names and their media guide biographies.
Nick Moody 2009-12
Played in all 14 games and made 10 starts as the Seminoles strongside linebacker...defensive veteran who played in 49 career games and amassed 155 career tackles...converted from safety and played in 35 games and started a combined14 games in the secondary between 2009-2011...registered 20 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss...made his first solo sack and totaled three tackles in the Orange Bowl against Northern Illinois...credited with three quarterback hurries, which came in all three of FSU's games versus top 16 opponents (Clemson, Florida, NIU)...helped Florida State's defense lead the nation in yards allowed per play (3.86), rank second nationally in total defense (254.14 ypg) and rank in the top six nationally in scoring defense (14.71 ppg), rushing defense (92.29 ypg), pass defense (161.86 ypg), pass efficiency defense (95.43) and opponent three-and-outs (6.29 per game)...received the Don Powell Award for the unsung hero on defense and co-recipient of the Defensive Warrior award given by the strength and conditioning staff at the team's annual banquet.
Terrance Parks 2008-11
Three-year letterman who played in 43 career games for the Seminoles...big, physical safety who started 23 games over the final two seasons and finished his career with 99 career tackles, 10 passes defended and one interception in helping turn around FSU's defense into one of the best in the nation.
2011:Hard-hitting safety who finished as the team's sixth-leading tackler with 47 tackles in helping FSU rank as the No. 4 defense nationally - second-best defense against the run and No. 20 in pass defense ... played in all 13 games and made 11 starts in his second season playing safety...had a career-best seven tackles in his final game as a Seminole - an 18-14 win over Notre Dame in the Champs Sports Bowl...previous career-high of six tackles came earlier in the season versus Oklahoma, Clemson, at Boston College and at Florida...had five tackles at Wake Forest...made four stops versus Maryland... intercepted first career pass at Florida and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown to seal FSU's 21-7 win in The Swamp...earned one of six community service awards given out at the end of spring practice.
