Florida State lands tight end recruit Jalen Wilkerson

Florida State added to its recruiting class Friday as Jalen Wilkerson, a tight end recruit committed via his twitter account. Out of Douglas (Ga.) Coffee County, Wilkerson is rated a three-star recruit by the 247sports composite, and is considered the No. 16 tight end recruit in the country. All that can change, of course, as it is still very early in the rankings process. He is the teammate of FSU offensive line commitment Cole Minshew.

Wilkerson also claims offers from Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State and Michigan, though it is not known if all of those offers were committable.

FSU tight ends coach Tim Brewster quickly followed up with this tweet:

Wilkerson is 6'4 and 227 pounds. He is the 12th commitment of Florida State's 2015 class -- a class in which FSU can take up to 27 players if it gets enough early enrollees.

Why he chose Florida State

I caught up with Wilkerson and asked why he decided to choose Florida State when he did.

"FSU was just a place that felt like home," Wilkerson said. "It was the school and the fit for a player like me."

Wilkerson added that he is looking into being an early enrollee, but is not yet sure if he will be able to do so.

The goods

In his film, Wilkerson shows some very nice athleticism, and paired with his size, and the fact that he will have time to develop at Florida State with three tight ends ahead of him on the roster, he could turn into a really nice piece for the Seminoles.
