Florida State football practice report: 8/4

Jimbo Fisher and his Florida State Seminoles kicked off Fall camp Monday afternoon.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

With the season-opener against Oklahoma State less than a month away, the Florida State Seminoles took to the practice fields once again Monday afternoon to kick off Fall camp. The 2014 class of freshman have all qualified and seemed eager to get started in their FSU uniforms.

The players were not in shells yet, but they did show off their new uniforms and helmets.

As Jimbo mentioned during Monday morning's press conference, Markus Eligwe was not dressed out, while Nile Lawrence-Stample dressed but remained limited.

I kept a close eye on the defensive tackles, especially the freshmen, and I have some thoughts. Arthur Williams is absolutely huge. Eddie Goldman looks to be in great shape, which is something I was curious about following his tremendous spring. Keith Bryant, at least as of the first day, has not made the stride I had hoped he would make over the summer. Bryant is still very strong and athletic, but still seems to have issues with his technique(but it's the first day). Derrick Mitchell appeared to be limited at times as well.

Freshman Jacob Pugh, the highly touted linebacker out of Godby High in Tallahassee, was working with the defensive end group and is huge. Pugh is somebody I have long thought to be a perfect fit as a pass rusher, and I imagine they are cross-training him with that group to better his technique when it comes to rushing the edge.

Lorenzo Featherston, while long and athletic, needs to add weight from what I can see.

Roberto Aguayo did what people expect from the Groza Award winner, he put his kicks through the uprights.

As of now, it appears that Christian Green is lined up as the slot receiver, with Rashad Greene out wide as expected. Ermon Lane, Travis Rudolph and Ja'Vonn Harrison are expected to compete for a starting job throughout camp.

Jimbo Fisher will speak following Monday's practice, and the media will have a chance to speak with a couple players as well.
