Florida State football: Opponent Recap - Week 7

Happy nightmares!
Happy nightmares!

Updates on Florida State football opponents are ordered as they appear(ed) on FSU's schedule.

- Texas State had a bye.

- South Florida beat UCONN 28-20 to record back to back wins for the first time since 2013.

- Boston College took advantage of some early Clemson (Week 9, 11/10) miscues but the Tigers pulled away in the second half winning 34-17.

- Wake Forest was bludgeoned to the tune of 56-14 by North Carolina. Shots fired.

- Miami made good on it's promise to not quit after losing to Florida State and beat Virigina Tech 30-20.

"It’s awesome because this is our first Coastal game," said Kaaya, who has thrown at least two touchdown passes in every one of his home starts. "We bounced back pretty well from last week. Guys made a point that, ‘Hey, We can’t be hung over from a loss.’

"I really meant what I said last week when I wanted to see Florida State again," Kaaya added, referring to the ACC Championship Game on Dec. 5 in Charlotte, North Carolina. "In order to do that, we’ve got to handle business one week at a time, one practice at a time, one play at a time, and it started with Virginia Tech this week."

- Florida State used a strong 2nd half to take the lead and put Louisville away 41-21. Trevon Young puts into words what every defender thinks on playing Dalvin Cook.

"I had probably the same as everyone else’s thought, ‘Why didn’t we tackle him?’" said Young, who was not in the game on that play. "There were five or six guys on him, but he got away from us."

- Georgia Tech (Week 8, 10/24) started strong against Pitt but struggled in the 2nd half losing 31-28. Injuries have really done a number on Georgia Tech, and the Yellow Jackets have some bad close-game luck (0-3 single score) that makes their record look worse than they are. GT's offense did get on track.

"Well, it just kind of seemed like that’s the way the year is going," coach Paul Johnson said. "As I’ve said before, there’s a very thin margin of error for this team and it reared its head."

- Syracuse (Week 9, 10/31) continues to struggle losing in triple overtime 44-38 to Virginia. UVA used an 88 yard drive ending in a field goal to tie the game at the end of regulation and Syracuse could not score on their 3rd possession in OT.

"The best way I could describe it is us not capitalizing on opportunities," Syracuse linebacker Zaire Franklin said after the Orange (3-3, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) lost their third in a row, 44-38. "Throughout the drive, we put them in second down and long, third down and long opportunities. We just didn’t capitalize. We had technique problems, stupid penalties, and we have to get off the field on third down, especially in that situation."

- North Carolina State (Week 11, 11/14) had a bye.

- Chattanooga (Week 12, 11/21) took VMI's best shot but where too much for the Keydets winning 33-27. Hey Sema'je Kendall what great technique did you use to pick off that pass?

"He threw it right to me," Kendall said.

Oh...well, good job.

- LSU used a fake field goal to knock Florida (Week 13, 11/28) from the ranks of the unbeaten, 35-28.

"That was pretty awesome," McElwain said, giving a tip of the hat to the magic of the Mad Hatter. "Kind of a badge of honor they’ve got to fake one to beat us."

Record of Opponents: 42-33
