This is the third installment highlighting the craft beer scene of Florida State's opponent. The format will feature a beer from a local brewery that best represents the Noles' weekly opponent. We will then go on to highlight a brewery that we feel you should definitely give a look if you happen to ever be passing through or are supporting the Seminoles on the road. Without further delay we present to you craft beer in North Carolina
Locating beer brewed in the Carolinas that is widely distributed is not the easiest task in the world but we managed to find one that we think best represents the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. As you might expect there are not many breweries in the greater Winston-Salem area so the beer of choice came from Aviator Brewing Company which is headquartered about 20 miles south of Raleigh. The following is a description of MadBeach American Wheat...
An American wheat beer brewed with half barley and half white wheat. We also spice this beer with sweet orange peel. A good drinking beer to quench your thirst during the boiling summer months.
This beer was chosen because like Wake, wheat beers spiced with orange peel were all the rage in 2006. Now I will admit this beer is better tasting than the Blue Moon and Leinenlkgels as you get a lot more bready malts and the citrus is toned way down. If the MadBeach doesn't appeal to you and I can't blame you if it doesn't, my North Carolina beer of choice this weekend will be Oskar Blues Mama's Lil Yella Pills. Yes it is originally from Colorado but is now brewed in their Brevard, NC facility and I find it absolutely delicious.
Now on to the brewery and if you are ever traveling through Winston-Salem you are lucky enough to experience what is one of the best breweries in the state. Foothills Brewery has been doing great things for over a decade and are best know for their Sexual Chocolate and Bourbon Barrel Sexual Chocolate, a well done Imperial Stout. If you are downtown there is a brewpub with the main brewery and tasting room is located southwest of Winston-Salem.
Unable to get your hands on any beers from North Carolina, no worries, we would love to know what you plan on drinking this weekend as you root on your Noles.
