Florida State football, recruiting news: Defense is king in ACC

Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

- In David Hale's weekly look behind the numbers in the ACC for ESPN, he focuses on exactly how impressive Everett Golson's turnover avoidance through six games.

Everett Golson arrived at Florida State as a turnover-prone talent, but after a stellar outing against Louisville, he's now had 177 passes and 36 rushes without a single interception or lost fumble. In the last decade, no other QB has had more plays in his first six games without a turnover.

- More from ESPN as Andrea Adelson confirms the success that the teams of the ACC have had on defense through the first half of the season.

At the midway point of the season, the ACC has five defenses ranked in the Top 20, and 10 ranked among the Top 37 in the nation. Zero ACC defenses rank in the bottom third in the country

- With just under three weeks until the Seminoles travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers, Clemson defensive tackle D.J .Reader returned to practice on Monday after missing the first six games of their season due to a personal leave of absence. Reader could have a big impact on a defensive unit that already comes in at No. 10 in yards per game allowed without him.

- Chris Nee of Noles247 takes a very close look at the penalties that have been committed by the offensive line through FSU's first six games. Although the line's blocking is improving, they suffered a setback in penalties against Louisville, committing six penalties for a total of 35 yards, a season-worst in both categories.
