FSU practice report: McFadden returning kicks

News, notes, and observations from the day's Florida State practice.

The 'Noles hit the practice field under partly cloudy skies yet again today, as they continue preparation for the arch rival Miami Hurricanes.

Offense

We seem to have finally reached a period of stability on the offensive line, as the starters remain Rod Johnson, Kareem Are, Ryan Hoefeld, Wilson Bell, and Derrick Kelly, left to right. The twos have leveled out as well, and consist of Keith Weeks, Corey Martinez, Alec Eberle, Chad Mavety, and Brock Ruble.

Johnathan Vickers took the first running back reps again, and Nyqwan Murray again began practice without his fingers taped up, but, unlike yesterday, he did not have them taped after catching a few balls.

Defense

The linebackers worked on taking on and shedding blocks correctly. Defensive backs again concentrated on high pointing the ball, and defensive end work focused on agility.

Special Teams

While the first-team kick returners remained Jalen Ramsey and Kermit Whitfield, frosh DB Tarvarus McFadden got some burn with the twos, rotating in with Travis Rudolph alongside Bobo Wilson.

Injured/Absent

For the second straight day, starters Dalvin Cook, Terrance Smith, and Nate Andrews did not participate, though all were present. Cook's gait appears about normal with just the slightest hitch; Smith remains in a walking boot; and Andrews is off his crutches with little limp, if any. The latter two worked on the stationary bike, rowing machine, and did crunches. Freshman offensive lineman Cole Minshew is still battling back from a concussion, and was riding the bike as well.

Up Next

Jimbo Fisher will speak after practice, so be sure to check back here for updates. Tomorrow's practice will be closed to the media, but Fisher has his weekly conference call in the morning and his call-in show at night.
