FSU practice report: Mavety back from illness

News, notes, and observations from the day's Florida State practice.

Post-practice update: This week's injury report consists of Derrick Mitchell, who's out with a back injury, Freddie Stevenson (concussion), and Mario Pender, who's still recovering from a collapsed lung and subsequent surgery. Mavin Saunders will miss another game with a shoulder injury. And Cole Minshew is now listed as out for the season with an ankle injury. Reggie Northrup is listed as probable. Fisher also said that he expects Chad Mavety to start.

The 'Noles had their usual light Thursday practice in shells today, working out in the black helmets that they'll wear Saturday against Chattanooga. There did seem to be some issues with the helmets early on, including breaking straps.

Injured/Absent:

Although Fisher said on Tuesday that Reggie Northrup will be good to go for Saturday, he's still not practicing, although his right arm was no longer in a sling. He stretched with the team but did not practice. Freddie Stevenson was on the bike, and we didn't see Cole Minshew or Mario Pender.

Offense:

Dalvin Cook continues to practice every day, today sporting substantial tape around his left ankle. The first-team offensive line was made up, left to right, of Rod Johnson, Kareem Are, Alec Eberle, Wilson Bell, and Brock Ruble. The twos were Ethan Frith, Keith Weeks, Corey Martinez, Joshua Peters, and Chad Mavety, who was back after missing a couple days due to illness. He participated in a limited role.

Pigg Harrison and Johnathan Vickers ditched the non-contact jerseys they'd been wearing.

Defense:

Other than the Northrup issue, the defense is as healthy as it's been in a while, as Lorenzo Featherston was no longer in a non-contact jersey.

Up Next:

Fisher will relay FSU's official injury report after practice, so be sure to check back here for that update. Friday's walk-through, as always, is closed to the media. Florida State and Chattanooga will kick off in Doak Campbell Stadium a little after 3 pm on Saturday, but you may want to show up early to take in the Senior Day ceremonies.
