Florida State Jimbo Fisher press conference recap: NC State week

Live updates from Jimbo Fisher's weekly press conference.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Jimbo Fisher spoke about a multitude of topics during his press conference on Monday, these are the biggest three things we learned:

1) Florida State is still searching for a quarterback.

After praising Maguire for his play immediately after the game against Clemson, Jimbo Fisher described Maguire's play on Monday by saying, "I don't think he played a great game, i don't think he played a poor game, he played a solid game." Once again, we will play the waiting game on who will be named the starting quarterback as Fisher said, he will wait and see before announcing the starter. It may very well be this way for the rest of the season.

2) This team is the best it is going to get all year.

Before last week's press conference, one main word that Fisher always went to about describing the team was "evolve." Not once in any interview or presser has he used that word in the past two weeks. Instead, he is starting to use the word 'proud," to describe their play, including five times in his opening statement today. With Florida State's ACC and National Championship runs closed, these last three games should all be about evolving the youth, however it seems as if Fisher believe's they have done as much improving in one season as they can.

3) Dalvin Cook seems as healthy as he has been in weeks, others relatively healthy as well.

When asked about his health after the game, Fisher said he spoke to Cook and said, "He's probably as healthy as he's been all year." After missing the game against Syracuse, Cook rushed 21 times, his fourth 20+ rushing attempt game. On Terrance Smith, Fisher said he came out fine, and that Ro'Derrick Hoskins probably suffered a a bad bruise, but should be "OK."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Monday November 9th, following a 23-13 loss at ClemsonFlorida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher will speak to the media at 1 PM EST.

Dalvin Cook exploded from his first attempt, scoring on a 75-yard touchdown run, and finished the day with 194 yards. However, after that first play, the struggles returned to the offense. The 'Noles only had two more red zone opportunities in the game, which resulted in an interception thrown by Sean Maguire, and a field goal after Florida State could not cash in on first and goal from the nine. It didn't stop there however as the offensive line had three false starts and three delay of game penalties which took away very manageable conversion attempts. Although after the game coach Fisher said Sean Maguire played well, he finished the day with only with 169 yards on 16-29 passing as Florida State is still searching for their quarterback.

Thanks to the tremendous effort by the FSU defense, the 'Noles were in this game throughout. Despite giving up 512 yards, the Seminoles kept a surging Tiger offense who had scored at least 34 points in their last four games to just 13 points after three quarters. Javien Elliot played his heart out, and definitely earned that scholarship he earned over the summer breaking up a pass and recording a couple of tackles. Jalen Ramsey also played an amazing game breaking up passes and having huge tackles, including preventing a fourth down conversion. Freshmen Josh Sweat and Derwin James gave FSU fans more of a glimpse of what is to come, and it looks pretty exciting.

Florida State will prepare to take on NC State this Saturday at 12:30 PM EST on the ACC Network.
