Florida State football, recruiting news: Time to work the phones

Tons of Florida State football recruiting info.

Lots of recruiting news and some Florida State football news for you on Monday afternoon. Monday begins the dead period, which means that all recruit visits are over for a few weeks. I wrote up a full explanation for SB Nation here, but suffice to say coaches are going to be phoning and messaging an awful lot in the coming weeks.

I spent the weekend at the state championships. I also spoke with four-star linebacker Devin Bush, Jr., of Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Flanagan and five-star cornerback Stanford Samuels III, also of Flanagan about recruiting. The videos are here, Bush first and Samuels second. Bush decides Wednesday between Michigan and FSU.

One of the most impressive prospects I saw was Carlos Becker, of Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola High School. The 6'3 CB/S was being closely observed by coaches Charles Kelly and Bill Miller of Florida State after an excellent senior season. Having already visited N.C. State, Becker has three visits left, including Ole Miss, Florida State (on the 15th) and Kentucky. Becker has legit interest in Florida State and I love his versatility. I also love how angry he was that Osceola lost. Love the fire.

Florida State also had visitor Terrell Hall in over the weekend. Hall, of DC, is a former Ohio State commitment. The main competition is from Alabama and perhaps Maryland and Ole Miss. All reports are that the visit went great. FSU has had a nice group of DC players come through recently like Ronald Darby, Eddie Goldman and Marcus Lewis.

ESPN analyst Derek Tyson thinks FSU has a great chance.

FSU currently has two ends committed. Josh Brown of North Carolina (think Jacob Pugh's role when FSU plays a 3-4, though one or both could potentially play true linebacker) and Janarius Robinson. Brown is rock solid to the Seminoles. Janarius Robinson, of Panama City (Fla.) Bay is a four-star strong-side defensive end who recently affirmed he's solid to FSU. Both plan to enroll early.

Dalvin Cook has a little brother, James, a freshman who is better than he was at the same age. Really. Watch that video.

Four-star FSU safety commit Jamel Cook is solid to FSU, will take visits, and is not an early enrollee.

Florida State landed tackle recruit Mike Arnold over the weekend. That happened quickly. I didn't even know FSU was on him a week ago. You can thank Virginia Tech's staff change for the help.

2017 QB Bailey Hockman decommitted from Georgia. I'd expect FSU, Alabama, Miami and others to kick the tires.
