Florida State will enter its sixth National Signing Day under head coach Jimbo Fisher. And while FSU's class is already pretty much an unqualified success thanks to enrolling an incredible eight prospects for the spring semester, including six rated four- or five-stars, there are still storylines.
FSU is very likely to sign a top-five class with its 19 current commitments and 13 blue chippers (one of the highest ratios in the country). But will it be able to hold on to four-star QB recruit Deondre Francois of IMG Academy? Francois deleted the tweet decommitting from Florida State, and claimed that he was hacked. But I still feel that something is up and that FSU has a fight on its hands with the Gators. UF likely presents a greater opportunity to play early.
Of Florida State's 11 current verbal commitments, Francois is the only one that FSU seems like it will have to fight to sign. (Tomahawk Nation previously reported that Florida State will not sign Brian Bell).
Florida State is still in on some top targets. Defensive end Shelton Johnson is a three-star lanky pass rusher from Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic for whom FSU is battling Miami and Michigan. Terry Beckner, Jr., is a five-star defensive tackle from East St. Louis who is strongly considering Missouri and Florida State after also visiting Auburn and Ohio State. And five-star cornerback Iman Marshall, of Long Beach (Calif) Poly is considered very likely to attend USC, but also considered Florida State, Michigan, LSU, UCLA and others. DC four-star defensive back Marcus Lewis is considering Kentucky, Miami and Texas as well as Florida State. We'll see if FSU makes a move on him now that cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick elected to stick with his Alabama pledge.
FSU's coaches and recruiting staff may have some prospects on the back burner that they've kept off the media's radar, so we'll also be on the lookout for that, but as of now we are not aware of any other prospects of that nature.
Tomahawk Nation will have a complete recruiting tracker and breakdowns by position Wednesday. Join us for complete, free recruiting coverage throughout the day beginning at 8 am ET.
