Florida State football spring practice report: 3/28

The Seminoles practiced again on Saturday trying to make up for lost time.

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida State Seminoles returned to the practice fields Saturday morning as they begin to make up for lost time. A couple players still seemed to be missing.

Ryan Hoefeld, Nile Lawrence-Stample, Bobo Wilson and Ryan Green were not at practice. Chad Mavety (boot), Terrance Smith (boot), Ethan Frith, Derrick Kelly, Derrick Mitchell, Kermit Whitfield and Calvin Brewton were there but not dressed or participating.

The offensive line got the day off from its pre-practice routine, but it was still the first squad to roll into the practice facility. Alec Eberle was back taking reps as the first team center after Keith Weeks assumed that position on Friday. And with the absence of Mavety and Kelly, Brock Ruble stepped in and took reps as the first team right tackle.

George Campbell, who missed practice on Friday was back in pads and fully participating. Ermon Lane was also back and participating. Campbell even took reps with the first team offense during four-wide receiver sets. Travis Rudolph lined up in the slot during a majority of the walk-through, something that will open up a number of options.

Mavin Saunders and Ryan Izzo split reps with the first team offense during walk-throughs. However, once the team split into drills - TEs go with the RBs and QBs - the staff was not very pleased with Saunders' effort and let him hear about it. But Sean Maguire, taking over that role, stepped in, grabbed Saunders and set him straight. It's good to see that from Maguire, and it seemed to have had an impact. Saunders definitely responded.

Without Mitchell and Lawrence-Stample the defensive line saw Derrick Nnadi and Demarcus Christmas in the middle with the first team and they seemed to please the staff. Jacob Pugh has assumed the role at Jack and Tyrell Lyons and Ro'Derrick Hoskins manned the linebacker positions. Jalen Ramsey experienced an issue with his helmet at one point, and while he was out Malique Jackson took his place.

Kick coverage team appears to be as follows: Derwin James, Jonathan Vickers, Tyler Hunter, Lamarcus Brutus, Nate Andrews, Jacob Pugh, Lorenzo Featherston, Trey Marshall, Javon Harrison and George Campbell.

Punter recruit Drue Chrisman, out of Cincinnati, Ohio was at practice and spent quite a bit of time with Cason Beatty. FSU signee Auden Tate was also at practice.

Jimbo Fisher will speak with the media following practice and we'll bring you any updates.
