Gambling: ACC football teams underdogs in opening games

5Dimes Casino updated its odds for the season opening college football games, and the ACC is an underdog in the four big non-conference openers.

Virginia Tech hosts the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes and is an incredible 20.5-point underdog. OSU is an understandably public team, and Virginia Tech has not exactly lit the college football world on fire over the last decade or so, but laying three touchdowns in Blacksburg seems like a foolhardy errand.

North Carolina had a disappointing 2014, and it plays another team that had a disappointing 2014: South Carolina. The game is in Charlotte, and the Gamecocks are favored by 7.5 points. South Carolina has out-recruited North Carolina, but does this seem a bit high for a neural site contest?

Virginia travels to UCLA and is a 16-point underdog. This isn't entirely surprising as UCLA beat Virginia in Charlottesville last year without needing to score an offensive touchdown.

And Auburn is favored by 12.5 over Louisville in Atlanta. Louisville might look more like the typical Bobby Petrino team this year, after losing a lot on defense. Auburn has recruited very well over the years and QB Jeremy Johnson has looked promising.

One saving grace for the league, sort of, is Notre Dame (not a full member), which is favored by 12.5 over Texas, as Vegas apparently has no faith in Charlie Strong's ability to field an offense.

Interestingly, FSU plays only one of these ACC schools this year: Louisville.
