Jimbo update: Fisher said John Franklin III had a nick in the shoulder and likely won't play in the spring game. He also said Gio Newberry has not been at practice while figuring out something on the academic side of things.
The Florida State football team took to the practice facility on a hot, muggy Wednesday afternoon as they continued to wrap spring practice. The 'Noles were in full pads.
John Franklin II and Nile Lawrence-Stample were not at practice. Kermit Whitfield, Derrick Kelly, Terrance Smith, Calvin Brewton and Demarcus Christmas were there but not in pads. Ryan Izzo was dressed, participating, but in a blue no-contact jersey.
While injuries continue to be a burden, a number of players returned from injuries including Chad Mavety, Ethan Frith, Lorenzo Featherston and Jacob Pugh.
Brock Ruble continued to take first team reps at right tackle, while Mavety stepped in as the second team representative. Mavety's movement were with ease and he looks to be comfortable after missing two weeks of practice. Derrick Kelly seems to be better as well and, while he was not in full pads, he was working solo drills.
J.J. Cosentino took reps as the second team quarterback in the absence of John Franklin II, who had been taking reps as the backup all spring.
Without Derrick Mitchell, Lawrence-Stample and Christmas, Derrick Nnadi and Keith Bryant took first team reps at defensive tackle. Featherston and Pugh remained limited, so Rick Leonard continued to take reps with the first team.
Nick O'Leary and Chris Thompson were on hand and watching practice.
Wit h the annual spring game just a few days away, FSU will practice through Thursday before taking Friday off in preparation for the weekend's festivities. Jimbo Fisher will speak with the media following practice and we'll bring you nay updates.
