JIMBO FISHER UPDATE: Fisher said Mavety, while back working with the ones yesterday and scheduled to do the same today, got sick before they really got into it. So I'm not sure we'll see him on Saturday. Fisher also said Reggie Northrup was itching to get in there today and that his recovery has been tremendous. From the sound of it, Northrup shouldn't have anything lingering around come fall. Great to hear.
The Florida State football team took Bobby Bowden Field inside Doak Campbell Stadium Thursday afternoon for its final day of full-contact preparation for Saturday's spring game. The Seminoles will hold a walk-through on Friday.
John Franklin II, Derrick Kelly, Ryan Green, Demarcus Christmas, Justin Shanks (sling), Nate Andrews, Jeremy Kerr, Jacob Pugh, Gio Newberry, Kermit Whitfield and Calvin Brewton were all out. Nile Lawrence-Stample, Terrance Smith, Delvin Purifoy and Colin Blake were not there.
These players we know are already out for the spring: Josh Sweat, Da'Vante Phillips, Chris Casher, Matthew Thomas, Reggie Northrup, Tyler Hunter, Derrick Mitchell, Ryan Hoefeld and Freddie Stevenson. Ryan Izzo was in a blue no-contact jersey.
That's 25 players total, if you hadn't already counted it yourself.
Reggie Northrup was in shoulder pads and shorts - first time he's been in pads all spring - and participated in team stretches. Don't expect Northrup to play on Saturday, but that's definitely a great sign in terms of his recovery. Phillips was running laps around the field and at fairly full speed.
Chad Mavety was back taking reps with the first team, but was spending time with one of the trainers as the media was walking out of practice so he might be added to that list come Saturday.
With Andrews out, Derwin James stepped in with the first team alongside Lamarcus Brutus. And with so many injuries at defensive tackle, Derrick Nnadi and Keith Bryant assumed those positions.
Jalen Ramsey and Mario Pender were working as the first team duo returning kicks. Ramsey seems to be a major asset as a lead blocker.
Jimbo Fisher will speak following practice and we'll bring you any updates.
