Here is a full tracker of Florida State players and their potential redshirt status. Playing in a game does not DQ a player from redshirt status, provided that he plays in a limited number of games during the first half of the season and comes down with an injury (real or fake).
Played:
DB Derwin James - James received a lot of reps during the USF game, and recorded his first career sack in the third quarter. James appeared extensively against Wake Forest after the injury to Nate Andrews, and may see a lot more playing time in the short future. He broke out against Miami, recording seven tackles. The Freshman broke out against Louisville recording three tackles, a sack, and forced a fumble. Against Georgia Tech, he had six tackles with one tackle for loss and a pass breakup. James had a team high 13 tackles against Syracuse as well as his second forced fumble of the season. He added nine tackles and a pass breakup in a brilliant game played against Clemson. After a solid game against NC State in which he had 10 tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery, James was named ACC defensive back of the week.
WR Da'Vante Phillips - Phillips had one reception in the opener against Texas State. He did not play against USF or NC State. Phillips did play against Boston College, Wake Forest, Miami, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Clemson however did not record any stats.
RB Jacques Patrick - The freshman back did not appear versus the Bulls, BC, Miami or GT, but had three rushes for 13 yards in the opener. In the Wake Forest game, Patrick appeared for a few plays after running backs Dalvin Cook and Jonathan Vickers went out with injury, which may get him more playing time soon. He did not record any stats, but was targeted once. Patrick had three carries against UL. Patrick broke out against Syracuse, scoring three touchdowns and gaining 229 all purpose yards, he will definitely see his share of carries grow as the season progresses. He had four carries for 12 yards at Clemson and got more work against NC State rushing 12 times for 54 yards.
DE Josh Sweat - Just over a year after tearing his ACL and dislocating his kneecap in his final high school year, Sweat has seen many opportunities, and recorded three tackles against USF. Sweat continues to play very well, recording two tackles and recovering a fumble against the Demon Deacons. He started against Miami recording one tackle and had three tackles with a fumble recovery against UL. He intercepted his first pass against Georgia Tech on a great pass deflection, and he also forced a bad throw to be intercepted with his incredible pass rush against the Yellow Jackets. He had two tackles and a fumble recovery vs. the Syracuse Orange. Sweat added six tackles in the game against Clemson and three against NC State, however those stats do not reflect his impact.
WR George Campbell - Campbell appeared in the opener, catching three passes for 42 yards. He also played against USF, BC, Wake Forest, Miami, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Clemson and NC State, but did not make a reception in any of those games. Campbell dropped a perfectly thrown deep ball vs Syracuse that would have been his first reception since the opener.
DB Tarvarus McFadden - A five star defensive back from Ft. Lauderdale, McFadden got some playing action late in the Texas State game, and recorded a tackle. McFadden has played in the Louisville, Georgia Tech, Syracuse and Clemson games, but did not record any stats. He sat out against NC State.
WR Auden Tate - Tate saw some game action against Texas State and Miami, but did not record any stats. He did not participate against USF, BC, Wake, Louisville, Clemson or NC State.
LB Sh'Mar Kilby-Lane - Lane did not record any stats, but saw action during the Texas State, Miami, Louisville, GT, Clemson and NC State games. He did not appear against USF or BC, however did make an appearance against Wake Forest recording a tackle. He recorded his second tackle of the season against Syracuse
OL Ethan Frith - Frith played against Texas State and Syracuse, the only games he has appeared in thus far.
OL Cole Minshew - Minshew made his season debut against Louisville after coming back from injury. Since then, he is out after suffering a second concussion.
WR Nyquan Murray - Murray appeared in his first game of his career against Syracuse after suffering a broken knuckle. He made the most of it, catching two passes for six yards. That has been his only appearance thus far. Murray played against NC State and did not catch a pass, but was targeted once.
DB Calvin Brewton - Brewton played for the first time against Syracuse.
DB AJ Westbrook - Westbrook saw his first game action against Syracuse, and also participated against Clemson and NC State, although did not record stats in any games.
DB Marcus Lewis - Lewis appeared in his first game of the season against NC State after suffering injuries that kept him out early in the season.
Yet to play
OL David Robbins- Robbins was beat out by Wilson Bell for the starting job, but may work his way into seeing some playing time.
OL Abdul Bello - Abdul Bello is out for the season with an injury.
TE Jalen Wilkerson - Wilkerson is out for the season with an injury.
QB Deondre Francois - Francois is a tricky one. He will definitely see some action next year when he battles for the starting spot, and the year after when Maguire is gone, but will FSU use a year of eligibility to play him in a game FSU would probably be winning? I'd assume not.
DT Darvin Taylor II - Taylor isn't expected to play, although it isn't completely out of the question, but he did make an appearance running out with the American Flag on military appreciation day.
