Could gameday be coming to Tallahassee soon?

There's only one Saturday between now and October 10th, and a lot could happen next week, but it seems possible FSU-Miami could end up getting College Gameday in town for their matchup. First let's took at other games that could prove competition for the honor:

(24) Cal @ (10) Utah - Next week Utah has a bye, and California plays a Washington State team that has not looked very intimidating. It's likely these two will be 9-0 on October 10th when they meet up and very similarly ranked to where they are now.

(4) TCU @ Kansas State - TCU plays a disastrous Texas team that *might* have some life being breathed into it by the emerging Jerrod Heard, Kansas State travels to #20 ranked Oklahoma State. I don't expect a win over Texas to boost TCU's stock much, but I imagine a win over Oklahoma State could make Kansas State a fringe-ranked team. Being two ranked teams would be helpful, but I doubt KSU jumps much higher than Cal, making these two matchups both comparable. Then again it wouldn't take a miracle for either of these teams to lose next week so this has a decent chance of dropping out of gameday competition.

(15) Oklahoma v. Texas - Texas again plays TCU, so it's not unlikely they go into this game with a record of 1-4. Oklahoma hosts #23 ranked West Virginia next week, and if they win I do expect they'll get a boost in the polls; but even if Oklahoma is ranked in the low teens, and even with this rivalry being historically on par with Miami-FSU, I think Texas' deplorable season is going to make this an unlikely gameday site.

(16) Northwestern @ (22) Michigan - Northwestern plays a Minnesota team that, yes, is 3-1 but those three wins comprise three fairly pathetic 3-point wins over mid-major opponents, and Michigan travels to a Maryland team that just got absolutely pummeled by West Virginia 45-3. I think it's very likely these two teams will be a combined 9-1 heading into October 10th and both ranked a little higher than they are now. This game has an interesting narrative to it because neither of these teams were expected to be very competitive this year, and both are catching everyone off guard with their strong play. This is in my opinion the biggest possible gameday threat to Miami-FSU.

So what does Miami and FSU have to do to get gameday to come to town? Well for one - Miami being ranked would help a whole lot. They're currently 10th on the "receiving votes" list, and so I imagine it would take a truly dominant win over Cincinnati for them to even have a chance to be ranked. Cincinnati has looked pretty bad in losses to Temple and Memphis, so I expect the win to come easy; but I don't have too much faith in Miami looking good with Al Golden at the helm. It would also help for Florida State to be dominant enough over Wake Forest to not drop in the rankings at all. Next week features some very losable games for top-10 ranked teams (#5Baylor v. TTU, #4TCU v. Texas, #7UCLA v. ASU, #3Ole Miss @ #25 Florida) so it's very possible FSU could move back into the top-10 for their matchup against Miami. That this is possibly the most storied rivalry of the last three decades should certainly help their case, and both teams being undefeated for this matchup is going to look nice. I want to believe that these two teams have a compelling case, and with a little luck I think they can.
