Mario Pender's rather freak lung injury caught just about everyone off guard. And on his call-in show Wednesday night, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher once again updated what can be described as a rather fluid situation regarding the time FSU expects him to miss.

When the news first broke that Pender has suffered a collapsed lung, the expectation was that he'd be released from the hospital last week. That then became early this week. And tonight, Fisher revealed that, due to an infection, Pender had to undergo surgery.

Pender was originally expected to miss, perhaps, a couple of weeks, but Fisher updated that timeline tonight as well, using the term "extended" to describe how long Pender may ultimately remain sidelined. While star running back Dalvin Cook will continue to take the lion's share of carries, freshman Jacques Patrick and sophomore Johnathan Vickers are expected to spell him in the meantime, beginning with Saturday afternoon's game at Wake Forest.
