Florida State lands fullback recruit Gabe Nabers

Update: Nabers tells me he is now 238 pounds, which is significantly bigger than he was this summer at camp. He says the best parts of his game are his catching and his physical play.

Florida State landed a fullback recruit Monday in Gabe Nabers, of Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes. Nabers is a 6'2, 215- 238 pound prospect and is rated two stars by 247sports. Nabers had been committed to USF, and before that to Georgia State. He was not offered by any other Power 5 teams.

"I called coach (Jay) Graham today and coach Jimbo Fisher called me after school and made it final," Nabers said to 247Sports.

The move likely signals that Florida State will not land a majority of the top targets remaining on its board, and is being proactive in filling out its scholarship allotment. Fullback Freddie Stevenson will be a senior in 2016, and there are no other true fullbacks on the roster, though there are quite a few tight ends.

Lowndes has long been an FSU stronghold, with players like Tyler Hunter, Greg Reid and Telvin Smith coming out of the South Georgia school, though the talent pipeline has run dry in recent years.

Nabers is the 20th commitment of the 2016 class for the Seminoles -- a class with a strong chance to finish in the top five nationally and tops in the ACC.
