In the third quarter of the Florida State versus Miami football game, redshirt junior linebacker Matthew Thomas was disqualified for a targeting penalty. At that point, Florida State was trailing the Hurricanes 13-3
Due to the foul occurring in the second half, Thomas will miss the first half of the team’s next game against Wake Forest. It was the first time in 2016 that a Florida State player had been called for target, or thrown out of a game all together.
Up until his ejection, the linebacker was tied for the team lead with three tackles and had the only quarterback hit.
In his place, freshman Dontavious Jackson lined up with Ro’Derrick Hoskins, which is presumed to be the starting duo in next Saturday’s game. Jackson has played in four games this season and recorded eight total sacks including a tackle for loss.
The ‘Noles take on Wake Forest at home next Saturday with a 3:30 PM start time.
