It’s down to three for the hardware that goes to the top running back in the country, and Florida State’s Dalvin Cook has made the shortlist. The finalists for the Doak Walker Award were announced on Monday, and Cook joins Texas’ D’Onta Foreman and San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey as candidates.

Cook will look to become the first ‘Nole ever to win the prestigious award; his announcement as a finalist comes just days after he became the Seminoles’ all-time leading rusher, with 4,166 career yards.

However, Foreman and Pumphrey certainly present some stiff competition. They’re first and second, respectively, in both rushing and yards from scrimmage, nationally. Cook currently ranks seventh and fourth on those lists, although it’s worth noting that his numbers have come against much more stout defenses than the other finalists.

The winner of the award will be announced in Atlanta at the College Football Hall of Fame on December 9.
