Last summer, Lawrenceville (GA) Archer High School product Jamyest Williams turned heads while camping at Florida State. I had a chance to speak with him then, and he was quite clear about his top schools, placing Clemson atop his list and naming the 'Noles as his No. 2. He's visited numerous schools since, and spoken with a lot of coaches. And FSU's have certainly made an impression-- one in particular.
Williams, or "Jam," as he's often called, raved about the one-on-one time he got with FSU defensive coordinator and secondary coach Charles Kelly at Saturday's Junior Day. The pair seem to have forged a sound friendship, as Williams alluded to them discussing myriad topics beyond just football: "Life," said Williams, more than once.
Of course, Seminole coaches are fond of emphasizing the significant role of relationships in recruiting, and Williams' affinity for Kelly seems to have played a part in a shuffling of his top schools. He no longer names Clemson as his definitive leader, instead including the Tigers in a top group that includes FSU, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Georgia.
