Three-star forward Mfiondu Kabengele signs with Florida State Men's Basketball

Earlier today, FSU Men's Basketball picked up another commitment to the 2016 class in three-star Mfiondu Kabengele. The forward from Don Bosco Prep (Ind.) is the second commit from Indiana alongside four-star guard C.J. Walker. He picked Florida State over Georgetown, Kansas State, Georgia, Boston College and Wisconsin.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Mfiondu Kabengele, who averaged a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds this past season at Don Bosco Prep in Indiana, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Florida State University and play basketball for Coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff. Ranked as a three-star player and as one of the top 60 high school forwards in the nation in the class of 2016, Kabengele averaged a double double while shooting 53 percent from the field, 81 percent from the free throw line and 38 percent from the 3-point line. He becomes the fourth top-100 high school prospect to sign with the Seminoles and adds to their second consecutive top-10 ranked recruiting class.

At 6-9, 235, the forward from Burlington, Ontario, Canada has a 7-1 wingspan which will allow him to flourish at Florida State with his ability to block shots, narrow passing lanes and deflect passes. He is also said to have strong ball handling skills and point-guard like instincts. The extremely versatile Kabengele has strong face-up and back to the basket skills which benefit him on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.

"Mifondu is an outstanding addition to our team," head coach Leonard Hamilton said. "His skill set fits in well with our returning players and he will complement the players in our recruiting class just as nicely. As we continue to move forward we are gathering players that will make this a complete class with the opportunity to help us during the upcoming season and into the future."

Kabengele will complete his postgraduate year at Don Bosco Prep before beginning his academic and athletic career at Florida State for the 2016-17 season.

"I am really excited about the opportunity to play in the ACC and represent Florida State University both academically and athletically," said Kabengele. "Coach Hamilton has been a very successful coach and mentor to so many and there was no other person that I felt comfortable trusting my future with. He is a master motivator and someone I look up too. I really felt comfortable with the entire staff. Coach Jones and Coach Young are great guys and I feel I can learn a lot from their experience. Coach Gates is a great coach and he really made this decision easy. He established a great relationship with not only me but my entire family. I feel that our bond will last a lifetime."

Kabengele plays for Canada Drive Basketball in AAU action.
