Tyrell Lyons, a backup linebacker for Florida State announced his transfer on Facebook Wednesday, writing:
I would like to announce that effective today 05/17/2016, I am officially transferring from Florida State University. I would like to first thank God for putting me on this journey to attend this prestigious University. I would also like to thank the coaching staff for all of their effort & time that they have invested in me, which helped to develop me into the player that I am. I would like to personally thank coach Jimbo Fisher for giving me the opportunity to play football at this elite program. Also, I would like to thank the wonderful academic staff for their support in making sure that I excelled as a student. I am going to miss the bond that I had with my teammates and would like to thank my boys for being my second family away from home. I have had some great experiences as a Seminole which I will always remember and carry with me. I have decided to make the decision that is best for me at this time. I thank everyone for the support they have shown as well as the continued support in the future. I am excited and I am looking forward to what God has in store for me while I go on this journey. My recruitment is now open. Any schools interested, feel free to contact me on Twitter @ Tyrelllyons22 or Instagram @ tyrell_lyons_22
Lyons had shown some skills as a coverage linebacker before tearing his ACL in Week 3 of the 2015 season. He was projected to battle for a second-string position in 2016 and is a redshirt junior.
Lyons was recruited out of Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast High School as a safety before moving down to linebacker.
