Our countdown continues through the 90s today, as we discuss the premier players to wear each jersey number at Florida State. Up for today is No. 96, which has been on the backs of some All-ACC talents-- two of whom were selected in the NFL Draft.

Those two are defensive linemen Larry Smith and Andre Fluellen. Smith, who wore 99 early in his career, was a second-team All-ACC choice donning 96 in 1998. In 1999, he was a second-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fluellen wore No. 96 throughout his FSU career, also securing second-team All-ACC honors, in 2006. The Detroit Lions selected Fluellen in the third round of the 2008 Draft, making him the first 'Nole drafted that year; he continued wearing 96 in Motown.

Before these two hit Tallahassee, DT Connell Spain helped Florida State to its first national championship wearing 96, which he did from 1992-1996. Spain earned an All-ACC Honorable Mention in, fittingly, 1996.

Which other 'Noles have rocked the garnet and gold 96? Here's the list:

  • Jerry Riopelle (1980)
  • Pete Panton (1981-1985)
  • Joe Jordan (1986)
  • Greg Rinehart (1987)
  • James Chaney (1988-1991)
  • Mike Spencer (1991)
  • Char-ron Dorsey (1997)
  • Randy Wilkins (1999-2000)
  • Donnie Carter (2001-2002)
  • Toshmon Stevens (2008-2012)

No Seminole has worn No. 96 since Stevens-- and, at present, it remains unclaimed. So which 96 makes your FSU All-Number squad?
