Florida State injury report: Fisher expects Derwin James back within week

Updates on seven Seminoles from Jimbo Fisher.

Jimbo Fisher just wrapped up his season-opening press conference. One of the topics fans are always interested in is the injury report.

The big news is that Derwin James is out of his walking boot (foot/ankle) and Jimbo Fisher said that James is healing extremely well and compared his healing abilities to those of Dalvin Cook, a famously quick healer.

Fisher said that James believes he’s ready to go right now, and that he concurs, but in order to make sure the injury heals that FSU will ease him back in and that he will likely be held out 5-7 days.

James is one of the truly special players in college football and FSU is smart to play it safe.

Reserve defensive end Adam Torres (leg), defensive tackle Justin Shanks (leg stress fracture) and defensive tackle Darvin Taylor (shoulder) are also being held out. None are projected above third string at this time.

Quarterback Sean Maguire (ankle), offensive tackle Derrick Kelly (knee) and running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) were all pronounced fully healthy by Fisher.
