Following the Seminoles’ annihilation at the hands of the Louisville Cardinals in Kentucky last week, Florida State opened its week of preparation for the University of South Florida Bulls with Head Coach Jimbo Fisher’s weekly press conference today. You can read all about that here, but before Fisher arrived, FSU distributed the week’s game notes, which always include the latest version of the ‘Nole depth chart.
On the offense, there’s been some shuffling at the receiver positions. Keith Gavin has been shifted from the third-string Z-WR to the third-teamer at the X spot, where Auden Tate had been. Gavin is behind Pigg Harrison, who is now the lone second-stringer there after previously sharing that role with Tate. Tate is now the second-team Z-WR, ahead of Ermon Lane, who did not play for the second straight game.
On the defensive side of the ball, the injured Derwin James has been dropped from the depth chart, whereas the also hampered Josh Sweat remains atop the Buck linebacker depth. Delvin Purifoy and Dontavious Jackson remain the backups to Mike LB Ro’Derrick Hoskins, even though Nick Patti was the first off the bench for linebacker depth vs. Louisville. Jackson did get in the game later, and Purifoy has yet to play this season. Emmett Rice is still listed as Matthew Thomas’ backup.
The starting free safety spot vacated by James is now shared by A.J. Westbrook “or” Nate Andrews, and freshman Carlos Becker III makes his debut on the depth chart as the third-team FS. The star position is still split between Marcus Lewis “or” Trey Marshall “or” Levonta Taylor, but another frosh, Kyle Meyers, is now included below that trio. The strong safety spot remains split between Marshall “or” Andrews.
