One of the emphases on the Florida State offense entering the 2016 season was on improving situational execution, particularly in short-yardage and red-zone scenarios. Improving the latter figured to involve some of Florida State’s taller receivers, and, sure enough, the 6-5 Auden Tate saw playing time near the goal line against Ole Miss.
The extent to which other tall WRs could contribute remains to be seen, but the 6-4 George Campbell won’t be one of them— at least not this year.
That’s because he’ll miss the entirety of 2016, as an injury to a core muscle will require surgery. Campbell, who had three catches for 42 yards in his freshman campaign, will take a redshirt and return in 2017 as a redshirt-sophomore. Campbell was listed as third on the Z-WR depth chart; presumably, frosh wideout Keith Gavin will move up a line into his place.
