FSU basketball hosts Central Missouri in a pre-season game

Basketball season (kind of) tips off

NCAA Basketball: Boston College at Florida State Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

It’s basketball season. I get that your sports attention-span is occupied by football’s march toward the dream of the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, but if you can spare a bit of time, hoops tips off tonight.

The opponent in this game that doesn’t actually count is the Central Missouri Mules. Here’s what you need to know about them:

  • They are a Division II institution, and last year went 21-9. Their season ended in the finals of the MIAA Conference tourney, and the team that beat them went on to win the National Title.
  • Based on their stat profile, they drew a lot of fouls, and turned teams over a ton. I guess that means pressure.
  • Nate Johnson is an assistant coach. For those who aren’t old, Nate was Coach Hamilton’s first recruit to commit to Florida State. He was a JUCO kid who was brought in to play point guard back when FSU was arguably the worst high major program in the mapped universe. He would go on to lead the ACC in assist-to-turnover ratio.

That’s all I have. FSU should beat them handily.

More importantly - unless you accompanied the team on their summer trip to Jamaica - this is the first chance to see the team play.

So if you’re there, comment in the threads on how the guys look. If you’re not, read the threads.

It’s basketball season. Fire Ham. Let’s do this.

The game tips at 7PM and admission is free. The game will not be televised or shown online.
