’Noles in the NFL: Week 11

The Philadelphia Eagles entered Week 11 with a chance to gain separation in a crowded NFC playoff race and to clinch the lead in the NFC East.

But following a 38-7 dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles might have announced themselves as the best team in the league. Carson Wentz might be the frontrunner for the MVP race at quarterback, but the Eagles’ defense is the unit that deserves the most credit this season.

Four former Florida State players line up on defense for the Eagles, led up front by Timmy Jernigan. Acquired this offseason via trade, Jernigan has been a wrecking ball up front and has paired well with Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham. At linebacker, Nigel Bradham is still making tackles left and right, and even had a fumble return for a touchdown in the game.

Finally, the tandem of Ronald Darby and Patrick Robinson might be the surprise duo of the season. Darby, who was previously with the Buffalo Bills, was traded in the preseason to Philadelphia, but has missed most of the season due to an ankle injury. However, he returned this week, locked down star receiver Dez Bryant, and even nabbed and interception.

Robinson has flown under the radar since he first entered the league in 2010, spending time with the Saints, Chargers, and Colts. But he has blown up this season in Philadelphia, quickly earning a starting role and has been one of Pro Football Focus’ top rated cornerbacks so far.

On a somber note, Chris Thompson’s season has come to an end in Washington. The former ’Nole fractured his fibula in Washington’s game against New Orleans and will require season-ending surgery. Thompson was in the midst of a breakout season with 294 rushing yards, 510 receiving yards, and six total touchdowns.

However, the good news is that Thompson just signed a contract extension with Washington, so it won’t be long before Redskins fans see him suiting back up again.
