Florida State has been a lock for the Big Dance since early February, so the only questions entering Selection Sunday were:

  1. What seed would the ‘Noles draw?
  2. Which opponent would FSU face?
  3. Where would the Seminoles be sent?

We now know the answers. Following a historic regular season and a trip to the ACCT semifinals, the Seminoles earned a 3-seed in the West Region. Their opponent is Florida Gulf Coast seeded 14th, champions of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Since all top-4 seeds are designated “protected seeds”, Florida State will play the Eagles in Orlando at the Amway Center on Thursday, March 16th. Should FSU emerge victorious in the 1st Round, they will take on either Maryland seeded 6th, or Xavier seeded 11th on Saturday, March 18th, also at the Amway Center with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen on the line.

Here’s a link to the full 2017 NCAA Tournament bracket.

Noteworthy:

This is FSU’s 5th NCAA Tournament bid under Coach Leonard Hamilton, representing 33% of all the men’s basketball NCAAT appearances in Florida State history.

This is tied for the highest seed in FSU history—the ’Noles were also seeded 3rd in 1992, 1993, and 2012 (seeding teams in the NCAAT began in 1979).

This season, Florida State owns 13 wins over teams selected for the NCAAT.

All-time, FSU is 15-14 in the NCAA Tournament.
