FSU women will face Miami in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals

The Noles defeated the Canes in both matchups in the regular season.

Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The (8) Florida State Seminoles 25-5 (13-3 ACC) seeded second will face the (16) Miami Hurricanes 22-7 (10-6 ACC) seeded seventh in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on Friday, March 3rd at 6pm. The game will be carried on RSN/ACCN Extra from Conway, SC. Miami earned the right to face the Seminoles by beating Georgia Tech today 87-71. The Canes, who shot 63.8% from the field, were led by Keyona Hayes who scored 16 points and Adrienne Motley who had 15.

FSU beat Miami 81-66 on Dec 29th in Coral Gables and the Noles won 80-71 in Tallahassee on Feb 6th. However, Miami beat FSU last year in this exact spot the ACC quarterfinals 74-56.

We have discussed Miami earlier. The Canes have won five of six since losing to FSU with their only blemish being an 83-70 loss at Duke. FSU has won 11 of the last 13 meetings against UM but Miami remains dangerous. Both teams have NCAA Tournament bids locked up but both squads still have plenty to play for in this contest. UM is on the bubble for a top four seed which would guarantee them home games in the tourney. FSU has that wrapped up but the Noles are still chasing a #1 seed. If they can win this tournament and get a couple of breaks in other games around the nation the #1 seed is not out of reach. Right now ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme has FSU as a #2 seed and Miami as a #6 seed.

The winner of this game will face either third seeded Duke or sixth seeded Syracuse in the Semifinals at 2:30pm on ESPNU. Sagarin has FSU as 11.5 point favorites.
