It all started during FSU’s Pro Day in 2016. While fellow Tomahawk Nation beat writer Curt Weiler and I were watching FSU football athletes take on the 40-yard dash, I made one of my notorious stupid comments saying I could run the 40-yard dash in 5.4 territory (As you’ll see later, I was just a little off). Over time, the argument escalated from if I could run the 40 in that time to if I could beat Curt in a head-to-head 40-yard dash.
In the months following, this came up constantly in discussions with the rest of the Tomahawk Nation staff with everyone siding with Curt. In hindsight, you can’t blame them betting against a 6’3 250 lb. 22-year-old in a 40-yard dash.
Finally, after months of anticipation, on a cold day in February, it happened. Curt and I took to Florida State’s SportsPlex fields and ran 40-yard dashes.
Among the 40-yard dash attempts, Curt had “defeated” me by roughly .07 seconds on what were unofficial times. In a head-to-head race at the end however, I left Curt in the dust. Regardless, since that date, Curt maintains that he won because his 40-yard dash time was quicker —- or so he thought. (For the record, Curt has no idea I’ve posted this article.)
After waiting a few more months for Cinefunk to finally edit the video and give us our official times, the results were in. We present to you, The first annual Tomahawk Nation 40-yard dash race off. Below are both of our quickest official attempts.
I proved them wrong once, now it’s time to prove them wrong again when everyone doesn’t believe me when I say I can make a 40-yard field goal.
This won’t be the last of this. No matter how much it hurts your eyes.
(Editor’s note from David Visser: no, this has not been slowed down.)
