Per an announcement from the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game, Jameis Winston, along with former Alabama running back Derrick Henry, will serve as honorary captains for the Florida State vs. Alabama game on Sept. 2.

From the release:

In keeping with its tradition of recognizing notable team alumni prior to the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, officials today announced that Derrick Henry and Jameis Winston will be honorary captains for their respective alma maters at the first of two Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games slated for Labor Day Weekend between (1) Alabama and (3) Florida State in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The duo will join the team captains at midfield for the pregame coin toss prior to the 8 p.m. ET kickoff on Sept. 2.

Winston, an Alabama native, was recruited heavily by the Crimson Tide. Towards the end of his recruitment, it was looking like he’d choose between one of Alabama and Florida State, opting for the latter because of his allowance to play baseball for the Seminoles.

This marks the second year in a row that Winston will be at a Florida State season opener. The Heisman Trophy winner was on the sidelines for the Seminoles’ opening win against Ole Miss last season, giving a passionate speech at halftime when they were down 28-13. They’d go on to win 45-34.
