FSU Football Practice Report: An offensive lineman makes his return to practice

And another lineman is absent for the second day straight.

Coach Willie Taggart watches as Derrick Kelly makes his return to the practice field.

It was another beautiful day here in Tallahassee and yesterday’s energy appeared to translate over into today’s practice. The Seminoles used artificial crowd noise once again, the only difference was the addition of Florida Georgia Line that blared through the practice field speakers as well. Scouts from the Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, and the New York Giants were also in attendance.

Offense

Some good news for Florida State’s offensive line! Earlier this week, Coach Taggart gave an injury update on OL Derrick Kelly and said that he was day-to-day. Kelly officially made his return to the practice field today and it appeared that he was a full participant. He participated in all of the position drills that occurred during the open portion of practice this morning and seemed to be moving around pretty well. In position drills, Kelly was working in with the other offensive guards.

The first team offensive line consisted of LT Brady Scott, LG Cole Minshew, C Alec Eberle, RG Mike Arnold, and RT Abdul Bello. The second team offensive line appeared to consist of Jauan Williams, Arthur Williams, Baveon Johnson, Christian Armstrong and Chaz Neal. Abdul Bello is still sporting a cast on his hand, but it seems to be precautionary.

Injured/Reserved

Despite being listed as starter on the Seminoles’ depth chart for the upcoming game against Miami, OL Landon Dickerson was absent from practice for the second day in a row. Dickerson has been nursing an ankle injury, but played last weekend against Louisville.

OT Jauan Williams was sporting a non-contact jersey.

RB Khalan Laborn made his first appearance at practice since his season ending knee injury. He was wearing a huge brace on his leg, but walking with crutches.

Defense

The defensive unit emphasized recovering fumbles today as Florida State has only recovered 2 of 13 fumbles so far this year. During one of the drills, Florida State had defensive players fumble on purpose at the end of the rep and forced the defenders to quickly find the loose ball.

DE Xavier Peters was back to playing at defensive end after taking reps at linebacker during ‘Nole Drills yesterday. OL Brady Scott handled Peters with ease however and drove him straight back during the drill.

Robert Cooper continues to impress during ’Nole Drills for the second day straight and tackled the RB at the line of scrimmage.

Janarius Robinson recorded a nice rep during ‘Nole Drills as well and easily made his way around OL Chaz Neal to make the tackle.

Injured/Reserved

DB Cyrus Fagan was still sporting a non-contact jersey.

LB DeCalon Brooks was still sporting a non-contact jersey.

DE Josh Kaindoh was practicing, but appears to be limited.
