FSU basketball’s new ranks in the AP, Coaches Polls

Update: The AP Poll is out, and FSU has dropped one spot, from No. 14 to No. 15. The Seminoles’ Wednesday opponent, Purdue, rose 5 slots, from No. 24 to No. 19. In the new Coaches Poll, Florida State also fell one spot, from No. 13 to No. 14. In that poll, the Boilermakers are up a spot from No. 19 to No. 18.

A spread-out opening schedule saw the Seminoles play just a couple of games when other teams were tested three and even four times, but the polls still showed the ’Noles respect as they were ranked No. 14 in the AP Poll and No. 13 in the Coaches Poll last week.

Florida State has certainly caught up in court time over the past week. Since the last polls were released a week ago, FSU has taken care of business at home by blowing out Canisius, as well as advancing to the championship game of the AdvoCare Invitational in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. by topping UAB and edging No. 19 LSU. The Seminole fell to defending national champion Villanova in the final on Sunday afternoon, but a 3-1 week, with two wins on a neutral court and one against a ranked opponent, have certainly given voters a better resume upon which to evaluate the ’Noles. We’ll update this piece with Florida State’s new ranks as soon as they are released later today.
