Florida State (15-4-2) has earned a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Noles earned the top seed with their impressive run in the ACC Tournament. FSU beat Duke, Virginia and North Carolina to capture the ACC crown.
Florida State will be looking to advance to the College Cup for the 10th time.
The other #1 seeds are Stanford, Georgetown, and North Carolina. The ACC is represented in the Tournament by 10 teams which is a record for the conference.
The strength of Florida State’s schedule is a major reason for the respect shown to them by the selection committee. The Seminoles played 12 teams during the season that made it into the NCAA Tournament.
Florida State will open the tournament in Tallahassee against Loyola (IL). The Ramblers (11-6-1) won the Missouri Valley Conference with a 3-2 win over Drake in the championship game. FSU and Loyola had two common opponents this year. The Ramblers lost to Notre Dame 2-1 while FSU beat the Irish 4-0. Loyola also lost to Wisconsin 2-1 while FSU beat the Badgers 3-0.
If FSU defeats Loyola the Noles will meet the winner of the South Florida - Albany matchup in the second round in Tallahassee.
