Checking in with FSU basketball in the latest AP, Coaches Polls

Seminoles staying put?

NCAA Basketball: North Florida at Florida State Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

Update: As expected, FSU remains at No. 9 in both the AP and Coaches Polls.

The Florida State basketball team has been enjoying another long rest, not having played a game since trouncing Saint Louis on December 22. Now we’ll see if that inactivity hurts the Seminoles in the polls.

Last week, the 11-1 ’Noles climbed to No. 9 in both the AP and Coaches Polls. This week, which saw a light schedule due to Christmas, did not include any losses from teams ahead of the ’Noles, so upward mobility seems unlikely. Blowout wins were delivered by teams ranked right behind FSU, including No. 10 Virginia Tech over Maryland-Eastern Shore, No. 11 Texas Tech past Texas-Rio Grande Valley, and No. 12 Auburn against North Florida.

But if you’re a voter, do you really reward victories vs. those teams? I mean, I had not heard of Texas-Rio Grande Valley until I just typed it.

Be sure to check back here, as we’ll update this piece when the rankings are released later today.
