FSU baseball’s ranking in the major polls

The Seminoles remain undefeated, but will they be able to move up from the fifth spot?

NCAA Baseball: Troy at Florida State Joe Rondone-USA TODAY Sports

It was an up and down week for the Seminoles. The ‘Noles defeated a solid South Florida Bulls team on Tuesday but there was still a dark cloud of uncertainty overhead as they were waiting for test result on arguably their best and most valuable player in Tyler Holton. Those results came in on when Florida State announced that preseason All-American, and Golden Spikes Award nominee will undergo surgery on Thursday morning to repair a torn UCL.

With a change in rotation and a stable of young talented arms, the Florida State pitching staff was solid this past weekend against Troy. The staff allowed nine earned runs over the three-game set while striking out 31 however the 16 walks allowed and 3 hit batters will need to improve as the season progresses. The offense has room to improve as well, the 7 plus runs per game is impressive given the .259 batting average and the anemic power displayed so far as FSU hitters only have 16 extra base hits. They have managed to maintain a strong plate discipline as batters have not struck out more than they have walked in any game and are second in the nation in base on balls.

Florida State is ranked top five in all six major polls. The ‘Noles could jump ahead of Arkansas who lost two of three games in a tournament this weekend but every other team in front of them won their weekend series. We will keep you updated as each new poll is released today.
