Florida State set to bring back Spirit Spear for spring game

Vanilla Ice isn’t the only old-school icon coming back to Tallahassee.

Keeping with the throwback theme of this year’s spring game, Florida State is bringing back its Spirit Spear to Doak Campbell Stadium.

A fixture of Doak in the 80s and very early 90s, fans have voiced a desire to see the light-up noise meter back ever since it was taken down following the 1991 season.

For those of you like myself who were -10 years old when it first debuted in 1984, here’s it in action vs. Miami in 1989:

Florida State’s spring game this year, already packed with intrigue given a brand new coaching staff, new-look spring roster and an unclear quarterback situation, is being marketed as a throwback theme complete with a Salt-N-Pepa, Vanilla Ice and Rob Base postgame concert.

The game is set to take place on April 14 at 7 p.m., and tickets are free for students, $10 for general admission and $55 for the Champions Club, though the latter is only $20 for those 18 and under.
