(3) Florida State (26-6) will face (11) Buffalo (28-5) today at 6:30 (ESPN2) for the right to advance to the semifinals of the Albany region in the NCAA tournament. Florida State defeated (14) Arkansas Little-Rock to advance to today's game while Buffalo upset (6) South Florida to advance.
Buffalo finished second in the MAC regular season and lost to Central Michigan in the MAC tournament final 96-91.
Buffalo is 58th in OPPP and 22nd in DPPP. The Bulls are 5th nationally in pace. They love to get up and down the floor and they average a healthy 78.3 points a game. This is a big key to their success. They can play at a fast pace and still defend very well.
The Bulls have four double-digit scorers. They are led by 5'9 junior guard Cierra Dillard. Dillard averages 15.6 pts and 5.2 asts a game. She is the main three point threat for the Bulls taking about seven a game and shooting at a 35.2% clip. Cassie Oursler is a 6'3 senior center. She averages 12.8 pts and 6.7 rebounds a game. She also shoots 81.6% from the line. Stephanie Reid is a 5'6 senior guard averaging 12 points a game. She is their other main three point threat shooting 36.1%. Summer Hemphill is a 6'1 sophomore wing who scores 10 points a game and leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 a game.
This will be an interesting turnaround for FSU. They are going from a UALR team that wanted to play at a glacial pace to a Buffalo team that wants to play at warp speed. Fortunately for FSU they have the ability to play different styles and should have no problem adjusting.
