FSU baseball holds steady in the polls

New, 21 comments

After a good road series, Florida State remains in top-10.

Seminoles.com

The Seminoles started off last week with an excellent mid-week series win, defeating UCF on Tuesday and Wednesday (Knights were 21st at the time). FSU followed that up by taking 2 of 3 on the road against a talented North Carolina team, splitting Friday’s doubleheader, before slugging their way to victory in Sunday’s finale. In this week’s D1 baseball poll, the ’Noles held steady due to almost every other team in front of them losing no more than once. Arkansas did drop a series at Florida, dropping one spot, but their previous week (2-game sweep of Texas, followed by a 3-game sweep of Kentucky) kept the Razorbacks from falling lower.

Dropped out of the Top 25 (Virginia — 22, UCF — 23, UNLV — 24, Sam Houston State — 25)

Noteworthy

  • After running off a 16-1 record in the last couple of weeks including 2 wins over top-ranked Florida, UCF hit a bit of a wall. Florida State swept them in a mid-week 2 game series, before the Golden Knights got bludgeoned in the back-end of a 3 game series by East Carolina dropping the series 2-1.
  • The week was not kind to teams ranked 22nd-25th. All of them fell out of the polls. Virginia got swept at Miami, scoring just 3 runs the entire weekend, including a 1-0 loss in Game 2. The Cavaliers now sit 3 games below .500 in league play (3-6).
  • The ACC has two top-10 teams, as NC State jumped from 13th to 10th after taking a series from Georgia Tech. NC State is 2 games up on Florida State, Clemson, and Wake Forest in the Atlantic Division with the ACC’s best record at 7-2.

FSU in other polls

FSU also held serve in Baseball America’s rankings, remaining 5th.

The coaches moved FSU up 3 spots to No. 5.

Florida State has a difficult stretch upcoming, including a matchup against the Florida Gators Tuesday, followed by a weekend series against an up-and-down Louisville squad.
