After a base-running collision during Sunday afternoon’s game against North Carolina, sophomore center fielder J.C. Flowers will miss 6-8 weeks with a broken jaw. After a strong start to the season, he’s seen his batting average drop to .236 while posting a .385 on-base percentage. He spent the night at a North Carolina hospital before returning to Tallahassee on Monday.

With Flowers sidelined, freshman Reese Albert, will likely see a large majority of starts in right field with senior Steven Wells shifting over to center. In 41 at-bats Albert is hitting .244 and his .385 average with runners in scoring position is second on the team.

Skylar Frey is another newcomer that will see an increase in playing time as Flowers recovers from the injured jaw. Frey is a JUCO transfer from Polk State College. Known for his speed, Martin could call on Frey as a pinch-runner late in games.
