Florida State’s momentum on the recruiting trail is just getting started this spring game weekend as four-star 2019 offensive guard Dontae Lucas has committed to Florida State. The 6’3 323 lb guard is one of the nation’s best offensive lineman ranking 146th Nationally, eighth at his position, & 21st within the state of Florida in 247’s 2019 Composite rankings. Lucas hails from Miami, Florida and will spend his senior season at IMG Academy after previously attending Booker T. Washington HS; home of former Seminole Matthew Thomas. He committed to FSU over offers from Miami, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and many others.
The first thing you notice about Lucas is his immense size, power, and physicality; once he locks his hands on you it’s over and he’s more than eager to finish blocks violently. Like 99% of high school lineman he’ll have to improve his leverage and hand placement once he gets to college but the traits are there for him to become a premier interior lineman in the ACC one day.
Tight ends coach Telly Lockette is Lucas’ primary recruiter and was instrumental in him choosing Florida State. FSU’s 2019 class now ranks ninth in the country featuring seven commitments: one five-star, four four-stars, and two-three star recruits.
