FSU baseball climbs in polls

New, 18 comments

The Seminoles are rewarded after going 5-0 on the week.

Florida State hosts Stetson Steve Johnson

After a week in which FSU did not win a game FSU won every game. Florida State took 2 games at home from Stetson and swept the 3 game series at Boston College to run their record to 5-0 on the week. Stetson is a possible post-season team but BC is certainly not. While the Seminoles did win every game pitching was often times suspect during the week and needs to get better if the ‘Noles are going to make any noise down the stretch. Hopefully Cole Sands can start on Friday to help sure up the staff. Florida State moved up 2 spots to 16 in this week’s D1Baseball top 25.

Noteworthy

  • A week after entering the top 10 Duke left the top 10 by dropping a mid-week game against #8 ECU and losing 2 of 3 against #3 NC State.
  • Both North Carolina and NC State are 15-6 in conference and this week they’ll meet in Raleigh, NC to determine a conference leader. Clemson is behind both teams by 1 game , Duke 1.5 and Florida State 3.5. There’s a lot of time to make up room for all of these teams as FSU has yet to play Clemson and NC State.
  • Speaking of Clemson, the Tigers might have the inside track to the ACC Atlantic title as they host Florida State and travel to struggling Virginia and PITT. FSU hosts Miami, travels to Clemson and ends the season at home against NC State. The Wolfpack host North Carolina and Wake Forest and end the year in Tallahassee. NC State does own the tie breaker against Clemson having swept the Tigers in South Carolina earlier in the year.

FSU in other polls

Florida State held steady at 17 in Baseball America’s poll.

The Seminoles also moved up 2 spots from 18 to 16 in the NCAA’s Coaches poll.

The Seminoles finish up their 3 games series with Stetson by heading to DeLand on Tuesday and then play host to Miami on the weekend.
